“All You’ve Got to Do is Ask"

The Key to Enduring Faith

James 1:2-8

Communion Service

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters,[a] whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.

“We Need Wisdom Not Strength In Order to Endure through Trials”

1. GOD OFTEN GIVES US HIS WORD RATHER THAN RELIEF FROM THE TRIALS OF LIFE

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. Matt. 7:24

15 and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 2 Tim. 3:15

2. IT IS BETTER TO WALK IN FAITH THAN RUN FROM THE TRIALS OF LIFE

But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind

because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything

You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you. Isa. 26:3

3. THOSE WHO HEED GOD’S WARNING WILL BE REWARDED AFTER THE TRIALS.

That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do

12 Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him. James 1:12

Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.10 And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. 1 Peter 5:6-10
